<parakeets
>
Today I got two new parakeets - one is bright yellow and named Andre 3000, one is pure white and named Daedalus. Likewise, their charachters seem to fit their colouring and namesakes - Andre 3000 is more friendly and curious, while Daedalus is more shy and timid. I like them because they don't look like run of the mill parakeets. I feel like the average parakeet, with the blue body and striped head, is like a knock-off brand bird. I've never thought they were too special. I saw these two birds over a week ago when I decided that I wanted birds, and was delighted to see that these two, or two imposters, were still there today.
Ramsey came with me, and he was very gentle while holding them, helping them into their new cage, and sitting next to them. When he adopts something in his head, to take care of it, it's the sweetest sight.
It's funny, the things I'd forgotten about birds, since I've lost my parakeets from grade school. Their pale scaley feet, the way they very slightly sway front and back as they balance, the way their pupils dilate, the way their bottom eyelid comes up further to meet their top when they want to sleep.
Of course, as usual, my favorite part of the day was when Ramsey and I sat on my windowsill, as he smoked and I crocheted my scarf, and we talked. Somehow we never tire of talking, which I love. It doesn't matter that my apartment doesn't have anything interesting or amusing in it, like TV reception, video games, and now, his DVD and VCR players. Even when I had the players, we never used them together but once or twice. We just sit together. Talk, or not. Just watch the world out of the window, or just watch each other. I can never get my fill of looking at him. or snuggling into him.
